even though our journals are due today (which happen to be this crazy nice blog) I am by no means close to being finished my project. this will be an ongoing project that won't be done until i've recieved all the imput and suggestions from my grad class once the website goes up. And the programming itself can only be done at home on my spare time, so it has been taking a little bit of time. with grad happening tomorrow, all of this week was devoted to the preparation of that, so not alot has been done on the website this week. but the shell of it is up and i will post some screen shots on this blog so you can see my layout. i have imputed over 60 grad's infos into my computer, so i am half-way done! I will be sure to keep these journal entries up with at least pictures and then for sure the link to my website once i'm done!

think it's a really vital thing for my grad class to stay in touch. all i hear from my friends is how they're never going to see these people again, and how they're never going to talk to these people again, and i find that really depressing! i know that i'm probably not going to see or talk to most of the people, but i really want to be able to communitcate with them through email, or see how they're doing through their pictures on facebook or myspace or whatever! so this website gives everyone a means of having everyone elses email addresses and link to their facebook accounts. another thing this website is going to be good for is keeping in touch for our 10 year reunion!!! hopefully as the grads change their emaiil adresses or names or locations, they'll email me so that i can make sure everyone else finds out. i can also use the website to report any marriages or deaths (hopefully not) or children or anything!!!

so yeah, i'll keep you posted on the progress of my website!

I've decided that in order for this to be successfull, not only will I have to put up a link to my website on the school's website, but i'll also have to promote it in other ways. Some ways in which I will do this are:

Send out a mass email to all the grads giving them all the info on the website,
Announce the URL over the annoucements so that not only the grads, but teachers and other students can see the website if they want...
Put up posters (?)
Announce it at either or year-end assembly, or our grad banquette (Depending on the status of the website)

I want this to be a popular website that will hopefully be replicated by other grad classes in years to come. Other than that, I've been working at a pretty steady pace of about 5-10 grads a day (getting their "profiles") so I will definietly get at least 100 of the 118 by the end of the year. There are some kids who don't like to show up to school that often or whatever, so they might take a bit longer to get, but i think that the majority will be done by june.

Photos down, grads profiles coming along... i've started the formation of my website. It has a pretty colourfull theme because i'm pretty colourfull myself... hahah. or it just looks better than anything plain. I've started to compile a photo album full of pictures from grad events over the year, and I've made the skeleton of what the "blog layout" of the grads profiles will look like. Hopefully I'll be able to finish the website by next week, and then continue adding student's info over the remainder of the year.

I went through the process of talking to Mrs. Crawford and getting the pictures. I managed to upload over 100 grade 8 pictures of people who ar graduating this year, and a little bit more than that for grade 12 pictures. I don't have all 118 of either grade 8 or 12, but that was to be expected. One of the things that I might want to do is see if i can get copies of the actual grad pictures of the grads. The cap and gown ones. I think though, to make my job easier, I might just put up a link on the website saying that if they want their cap and gown picture up, they need to email it to me. And also, if either their grade 8 or 12 pic is missing, to email me that as well.

One problem I've encountered so far is the difficulty in getting all the grads to fill out the profiling forms. 118 doesn't seem like a big group of people when you're looking at the number for running say, a dance, but when you're personally trying to find each one of those people and get them to make time for you, it's a little harder. I'm working at it though, and i think i'll be able to get everyone with just a little effort on my part.

I've started getting people to fill out the marvelous "grad profiling" sheet that I made up. I'm going to type up everything and keep it on my computer until I start making the website. I'm also going to add every grad to my msn contact list so that I'll be able to send out group emails once I finish the website. :) According to my father, I will be able to have anyone of the following domain names to attach "burnsview grad" to:

chloe.advantagebc.com
advantagebc.com
chewage.com
formerfatguys.com

hahaha imagine: burnsviewgradclass.formerfatguys.com :)

i'm thinking: burnsviewgradclass.advantagebc.com :)

I need to talk to mrs. crawford to figure out whether or not I can get the grade 8 and 12 pictures from her! yay...

So, my "inspiration quotes" genius idea was rejected. <> So i've moved onto plan B. I am going to profile all 118 (Apparently we lost 3 grads since the last dance) grads that go to Burnsview. I will profile everything about these wonderful people and I will record this information on a webiste with a link on the school's website. it will probably be: www.chloe.advantagebc.com/grads hahaha. i need to put the "chloe" in there because that's what happens when your dad gives you free domain names ;P here is what i'm planning on profiling:

example:

Name:Chloe Cotter
Birthday:August 1st, 1989
Elementary School(s): Chalmers
Email address:himynameisklowy@hotmail.com
Facebook Link:facebook.com/chloecotter (example)
Plans after graduation: I want to persue a career in either dental hygiene or phys ed teacher. I plan on going to either UBC or SFU :) But basically, i want to make lots and lots of money and buy alot of cool things for myself.
Favorite Music:Blink 182, Green Day, The Killers, Billy Talent, Gwen Stefani, MSI, Les trois accords, Jay-Z, Taking Back Sunday
Favorite Quote:"I've got soul, but i'm not a soldier" - Brandon Flowers
Favorite Colour: pink and green
When I was little, I wanted to grow up to be... a teacher, ironically.

I will include both a grade 8 and grade 12 picture. I will start this profiling ASAP!!!!!!

I hope this will be both successful/effective. Successful in that i get all the information from every person. And Effective in that it keeps everyone connected after grad. I'm going to use FaceBook because it is the most universal website and it forces you to use your first and last name to find each other, as opposed to a "username" that could possibly result in disasters because people like to change their usernames every so often. yeah.

So that's it for today!

my glorious idea for my individual leadership project still hasn't gotten off the ground. my idea is to paint "inspirational quotes" around the school in inconspicuous places. why, you ask? because inspirational quotes inspire people to change the world! (quite obviously). i will wrack my brain for every shred of knowledge i have about surviving highschool and suceeding in this terrible world, and then i will put quotes, song lyrics and other "pieces of inspiration" on different walls of the school which reflect my knowledge. but that won't be enough to satisfy me in this project! oh no! i will for sure put big, highly visible quotes in classrooms and in hallways, but i will also put smaller ones along the molding in the hallways, or in the doorframes of classroom doors, or inside cupboards in the band room (for example). it will make people feel good about themselves whenever they find a new one. and it will maybe even cause them to think they can do something with their lives (but that might be pushing it). who knows. but what i do know right now, is that if i don't get this cleared by Rizzardo, i am gonna be one unhappy camper for a very long while.
